3rd & 4th’s Spring Visit to Litzsinger Road Ecology Center
Earlier this week, the 3rd/4th grade enjoyed another lovely morning together at Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC). In preparation for the visit, we spent some time learning abut solitary bees, their importance as pollinators, and the bee houses that can be made to help solitary bee populations.
During our visit, we were tasked with checking the bee houses that this year’s sixth graders installed at LREC a few years ago. We wanted to find out if the bee houses are being used. In their small groups, students took turns with the jobs of data recorder, counter, photographer, and compass pro. They took their jobs very seriously and collected some useful data.
As always, we also spent time exploring, playing in the creek, and just generally rambling in nature, which is one of my favorite things to do with students! -Jenny Morrison
