First Peoples, First Nations
The 4th & 5th grade students hosted the First Peoples, First Nations exhibition today. Our school community decided to focus on the topic of water for our year long research theme. In our suite, we studied how water contributes to helping other things, not just what water is and what is does. It contributed to the Native Peoples and their lifestyles, so we launched our study with a water-based community, Cahokia. From there, the students researched the various regions throughout North America. Students created novel mobiles, totem illustrations, Cahokia illustrative graphic organizers, research reports, folklore-inspired stories, and artifact boxes (embroidery, beadwork, wood burning, clay, natural crafts, watercolors, illustrations, and more).
